JetBrains: The Ultimate Software Development Toolkit Any Developer Needs

And it's finally time for yet another article! This time, to introduce the "Swiss Army Knife" of all development tools, JetBrains. Starting out in my career, I was a software developer long before I got into IoT. And for the longest time, I had already been experimenting and playing around with the IntelliJ IDE [seems like eons ago now].

But since then, the brand has grown and evolved so much. Over the last two years when I made a decision to put my full-time career behind me to pursue my passion, my usage of the tools by JetBrains have intensified. So much so that I dare to confidently claim that I am quite an expert in some of their products like WebStorm, PhpStorm, PyCharm, DataGrip and CLion. I have also used their .NET capable tools over the years when I first started out as a .NET developer and I'm probably one of the most seasoned and unrecognised .NET developer on earth by now (just kidding). But hey, being a versatile, well-rounded developer and engineer, I have one thing left to say about JetBrains, and that is they are indispensable for any developer on this planet, or any other planet in the galaxy for that matter.

Software Development Learning Track...Coming in September/October 2018

Though it is still quite early to say much about it, but the vision and strategy is clear. It is also quite logical for me to start thinking about how I'm going to blend the software development track into OLS when the time comes. With the introducing of the PlatformIO (Embedded Systems Development) lab series later in June, we have created the perfect opening window for other software development tools, languages, frameworks to come into the picture. Sure, in some case, we might actually end up using VSCode, or Atom IDE (if it's the lab instructor's preference), but at the center of it all, I believe JetBrains will be a set of tools that will be seen throughout OLS for the many months and years to come.

Covering the Most In-Demand Programming Languages & Frameworks

When you look at the list of the most in-demand programming languages, all of the top five programming languages have one thing in common, they are well-supported by the software development tools made available from JetBrains. Put it simply, everything that we are going to cover for the next few years where software development is concerned, JetBrains is more than enough to meet those educational demands.

Meantime...more Research & Development

Before the software development learning track officially kicks off later in the year, JetBrains still serves another very important purpose for me, and that is in research & development. You see, the basis of how onlinelabseries works is that we focus our education & learning on using meaningful real-world use-cases. What that also means is that sometimes, I will want to design and develop a simple application, it could be a web app, or a mobile app that will have interactions with the IoT products/projects that I'm going to showcase. Nothing is more convincing to the end-user than to look at how the tools and products can be used to help solve certain problems and challenges, to meet certain needs of their work or projects.

So yes, we might just create something rather original out of our upcoming lab series. But on top of that, regardless of where you will be tuning in from around the world, or whichever planet you might be tuning in from [millions of light years away], know that we only want to concern ourselves with bringing you the most relevant brands and products that you can count on and rely on for the many years to come. And that includes JetBrains!

We are really glad to welcome JetBrains to our educational platform & community! Welcome to the OLS family!
